Message from the Principal
Wells Community Academy High School is located in the West Town/East Village neighborhood of Chicago. The school was founded in 1935 and is housed in a magnificent exposed brick building. Students receive state of the art instruction through a myriad of Advanced Placement, Honors and Dual Credit courses. Additionally, the school boasts its highly lauded Computer Science and Law Academies – two of the best of its kind in the district. Apart from these highly engaging college readiness courses and academies, students also enjoy selecting from a number of elective courses that allow them to write and perform plays, create and play video games, build robots to solve social problems, and much much more.
Wells has a number of partnerships with well-known organizations who along with the extremely committed staff and teachers at Wells provide students with unique opportunities to grow and thrive as students while simultaneously preparing them for post-secondary success. Almost all of the students at Wells participate in some type of after school programming which include a diverse selection of sports such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, rugby, baseball, softball and bowling; clubs which include glee, debate, skateboarding and student leadership; and support sessions which include homework help, mentoring, social-emotional counseling, and more. Wells has had a record of success in providing its students with highly sought after post-secondary options. The graduating class of 2016 graduated with over $5.5 Million in scholarships and many matched into highly selective universities. Wells is the proud home of six consecutive years of POSSE winners.
